ABOUT ME

Charalambos Gogos was born in Patras, Achaia, Greece. He obtained his medical degree from the Athens University School of Medicine in 1979, and served in the Greek army. He was trained in Medicine and Infectious Diseases in Patras University, Section of Infectious Diseases as well as Clatterbridge Hospital, NHS Trust and Royal Liverpool University Hospital, UK. He is currently Professor of Medicine at Patras University School of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Director of the Infectious Diseases Unit in Patras University Hospital. He has been the President of the Medical School of the University of Patras, since 2009 until 2013 and he is the Vice President of Hellenic Society of Chemotherapy, Vice President of Hellenic AIDS Society and Member of the Medical Society of Western Greece and Peloponnese. He is now the Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the University of Patras. His research interest is focused on immunology and infectious diseases, mainly on the pathogenesis of sepsis syndrome. He has published several articles on the immune response in sepsis, phagocytosis, the effect of antibiotics on sepsis syndrome, the role of biomarkers, etc in medical journals, like Journal of Infectious Diseases, Infection, Journal of Infection, Critical Care, Eur Journal of Clin Microbiology and Infectious Diseases etc. He is the President of the Greek Sepsis Team, member of the Global Sepsis Alliance. He is the author of more than 80 peer reviewed articles in PubMed and is cited by more than 1900 articles in SCOPUS. He is reviewer in many Scientific Journals. He has a special interest on Medical Education and he chairs the Curriculum Committee of Patras University Medical School since 2006.
